This Saturday, August 3, South Roanoke United Methodist Church teams up with SoRo Plawkers and Roanoke Plawkers for a special pop-up plawk. Kailyn Bear, SRUMC member and parent of two, came to Neighbors in South Roanoke with an idea: "I'm looking for a great day of service for SRUMC. Can you help me introduce our youth and congregation to plawking?" Say no more! With that a pop-up plawk was born and SRUMC is celebrating 100 years with a day of service — Plawking Together!
Everyone is invited. Meet us at 10am in the South Roanoke UMC church parking lot at 2330 Jefferson St SW. We'll learn a bit about plawking, why litter cleanup is important, safety tips, and then we'll take a stroll through the neighborhood picking up litter along the way!
Plawking ("Picking up litter and walking") truly is outreach and service — to each other, our neighbors, our environment, and ourselves. Warning: Plawking can be habit-forming. But don't worry, SoRo Plawkers meet monthly and Roanoke Plawkers meet all over the city multiple times every week. You'll find your fix! Join us on Saturday, August 3rd to catch the fever!
All cleanup supplies are provided. Plawking is good exercise, good for the environment, and good for bringing neighbors and community partners together to meet, interact, and explore Roanoke neighborhoods by foot. You'll be pleasantly surprised how much fun PLAWKing is!

Can't make Saturday's plawk? Want to plan your next plawk date already? Gotchya covered. Our regular monthly SoRo Plawk is later in the week on Thursday, August 8 at 5:30pm. This month we'll meet at Starr Hill Brewery — 6 Old Whitmore Ave. We'll take a 45ish minute litter cleanup walk. For those that can, we'll hang out for a while at Starr Hill.
