Since early this year, via Jan and Feb emails and Jan and Feb blog and social media posts, the Board of Neighbors in South Roanoke (NiSR) has been encouraging everyone to educate themselves and participate in the process available to us all in the matter of Roanoke City's Zoning Amendments.
As volunteer Board members of NiSR, we do not take positions in these matters as ours are just five voices in a neighborhood of hundreds of voices. The Board strongly encourages everyone to research the issue and share their own personal positions directly with city leadership in writing via email planning@roanokeva.gov, clerk@roanokeva.gov, and citymgr@roanokeva.gov (include all addresses), by phone to 540-853-1730 and 540-853-2541 and in person by public comment at Planning Commission meetings and City Council meetings. Note: Reconsideration of the Zoning Amendments, public hearings on the Zoning Amendments, and action on the Zoning Amendments by Planning Commission and City Council will occur as follows:
Planning Commission Public Hearing | August 12, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. in City Council Chambers
Roanoke City Council Public Hearing | September 16, 2024, 7 p.m. in City Council Chambers
To speak at Council, per the City's website: "Citizens may address any agenda item(s), public hearing and non-agenda items during the regular meetings of Council which are held on the first and third Mondays. Citizens who wish to speak may register on the date of the meeting at the entrance of the City Council Chamber before 2:00 p.m. Citizens may also pre-register by calling the City Clerk's Office at (540) 853-2541, Monday through Friday, (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.), prior to and including the date of the Council meeting."
Best regards,
Board of Officers
