HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Thank you! Together, registered members and regular participants alike, are part of something special: a caring, engaged community as we work to grow, revitalize traditions, build connections, and make real, positive impact in our neighborhood. We invite everyone to take a moment to register or confirm your member registration. Please share this post with your neighbors — Let's make 2026 a banner year for events, projects, and membership growth!
Since 2023, Neighbors in South Roanoke has operated without required membership fees, free and open to all regardless of ability to pay. We are deeply grateful to all who have contributed financially over the last three years — together, you donated almost $1,600.
In 2024 and 2025, SoRo Neighbors received three grants totaling more than $5,400 from the City of Roanoke. Without these grant funds, our work would not have been possible. We will apply for new grants in the coming weeks to support upcoming events and special projects, including new neighborhood entrance signs. However, grant funding is never guaranteed. For our organization to remain financially sound, flexible, resilient, and responsive to new opportunities, we must build a strong base of unrestricted funds through donations.
Today, we're writing to ask for your help to sustain and expand our impact by making a tax-deductible donation to Neighbors in South Roanoke. While membership is free, the costs of running a vibrant, volunteer-led neighborhood association are real — and your financial support will make a meaningful difference. Can we count on your help?
WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS...
With your donation, Neighbors in South Roanoke will:
Sustain neighborhood traditions and work together to create new ones.
Expand our environmental and beautification efforts including new neighborhood entrance signs.
Cover administrative costs of website, email, printing, event signs, supplies, post office box, etc.
Establish financial reserves, unrestricted by grant requirements, increasing flexibility and responsiveness to new and unexpected opportunities!
LOOKING BACK...
Annual National Nights Out
Our National Night Out events at Fire Station #8 continue to expand: a collaboration with I(Heart)SE and Old Southwest Inc, SoRo neighbors connected with each other, city leaders, a range of non-profits, local small businesses, and with first responders in support, celebration and appreciation. More here.
Tree-Planting Events
In collaboration with Trees Roanoke, Roanoke Tree Stewards, and the City’s Urban Forestry Division, we planted 16 trees in our neighborhood in Sept 2024 — a major step toward a greener, more beautiful SoRo. This is an important program for us to grow and expand! More here and here.
SoRo Plawking
Three years strong, our participation in the Roanoke Plawkers movement means a cleaner, more connected neighborhood — picking up litter while walking is a simple but powerful, proven way to care for our shared spaces and build friendships in SoRo and across the city. Our initial plawk feels like yesterday!
So Much More!
Neighborhood surveys, meetings with city officials, neighborhood-wide annual yard sales... Find it all here.
